Abstract

In this work, we studied the influence of the magnetic field configuration on the resistance to the corrosion of CrN coatings, obtained in a system of Unbalanced Magnetron Sputtering (UBM). The different configurations from the magnetic field were quantified through geometric unbalanced coefficient KG. The microstructure was analyzed by means of scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), and phases and preferential orientations with X ray diffraction (XRD). The corrosion resistance was studied by Tafel polarization in a 0,5M H2SO4  - 0,05M KSCN solution and spectroscopy electrochemical Impedance using a NaCl 3% solution. In general, the configuration of the magnetic field influenced in the preferential orientation of the coatings: With KG = 1.3 the CrN films had a (200) preferential orientation and with KG  = 0.85 had a (200) (111) mixed orientation. Smaller corrosion rates were observed in the coatings deposited on AISI 304 steel substrates with KG = 1.3
