Abstract

The major objective of this the study was the fabrication of clay/polymer aerogels from montmorillonite (MMT-Na+) and a biodegradable polymer (Polyvinyl alcohol PVOH) which are expected to be replaced in the market for conventional polymeric foams (expanded Polystyrene (PS) or Polyurethane (PU)) in thermal isolation, impact resistance (packaging) and construction applications. Moreover, the effect of adding flame retardant agents for the formulations prepared were studied. MMT-Na+/PVOH aerogels have mechanical properties (compression and impact) and thermal properties similar to PUR
