Abstract

In this work, the influence of reprocessing and accelerated thermal aging of PP and LDPE in the presence of a pro-oxidant “oxo” additive were studied. Films obtained from a first, fith and tenth extruded passes were employed and the following tests were performed: tensiles tests, infrared spectroscopy and melt flow index. The results indicate that in the PP with oxo case, its properties are not modified by reprocessing or themal aging suggesting that it can be recycled. In the case of the reprocessing of PEBD with and without oxo no appreciable changes that can limit recycling were obtained. Nevertheless, when this polymer is thermally aged in the presence of the oxo additive, it exhibited important changes in its tensile properties and reprocessing promoted the formation of carbonyl groups.
