EDDY CURRENT CORROSION OF A CLEANING ELECTROLYTIC TANK
Abstract
This work evaluated the deterioration degree of an electrolytic-cleaning structural steel tank due to corrosion and determined the influence of the factors affecting this process. A global analysis of: a) potential difference values measured in situ b) potentiodynamic curves constructed in the laboratory, and c) calculation of the effectiveness of current rectifiers for supplying the cleaning process, revealed that corrosion was associated to eddy currents. These currents were not used due to the low efficiency of the process and were easily transported from the conductive solution to the tank surface, producing corrosion at its output. In addition, a deficiency in the grounding of the structure accelerated the corrosion process.Downloads
