CHARACTERIZATION OF GALVANISING ASH FROM TWO DIFFERENT HOT-DIP PROCESSES AND EVALUATION OF ITS LEACHABILITY IN CONTACT WITH ORGANIC MATTER
Abstract
Two residual galvanizing ash samples from two different hot-dip processes were characterized. The samples were called ash “A” and ash “B”, and both contained above 70 wt% of Zn. Both ash samples showed Zn and ZnO phases, however, ash “B” also contained ZnCl2 and Zn5(OH)8Cl2.H2O. The leachability of both residues was studied in a simulated soil column. The column was made of organic compost, silica sand and the galvanizing ash. The column was periodically irrigated with distilled water during 20 days. Within those conditions, 230,3 mg and 30,3 mg of Zn were extracted from the columns containing ash “B” and ash “A”, respectively.Downloads
