EVALUACIÓN DE HIDROGELES DE POLI (ACRILAMIDA-CO-METIL METACRILATO) SINTETIZADOS EN DIFERENTES SOLVENTES

Abstract

Poly(acrylamide–co-methyl methacrylate) hydrogels were synthesized by radical copolymerization using different monomer ratios in water and ethanol. N,N- methylbisacrylamide (MBAm) was used as crosslinker and ammonium persulfate (PSA) as initiator. The hydrogels were characterized by FT-IR and gravimetry. Using gravimetry, the swelling parameters were obtained: swelling equilibrium index, water content, transport exponent n and swelling rate constant at 37 ºC. It was found that hydrogels presented anomalous non Fickian diffusion mechanism. Nevertheless, hydrogels synthesized in ethanol show a significant increase in n, with values close to 1. Moreover, these hydrogels exhibited higher swelling percentages that might indicate a decrease in the network crosslink density.
