Abstract

The effect of the feed type on yield and quality of the products of delayed coking from Venezuelan vacuum residuals was evaluated by means of processing mixtures with controlled concentration of the main groups (saturates, aromatics, resins and asphaltenes, S.A.R.A). Each of the processing mixtures had one of the main groups higher than 50 %w. The process was carried out in laboratory scale and the parameters analyzed were: the yield of products and the physicochemical characterization of the prepared mixtures and the obtained products (coke and liquids). The results showed that an increment in yield of coke and gases, and a diminishing in yield of liquids, is obtained when the resins and asphaltenes concentration is incremented or aromatics and saturates concentration diminished. With regard to physicochemical analysis, it was observed that, in all the cases, the measured variables (C/H, metals, and sulfur content) changed in an important way with increasing the presence of more polar and heavy fractions. The results correspond to the expected theoretical trends and show that each constituent group has a markedly different effect in the products obtained in the process.
