The objective of this paper is to make a comparative study of abiotic thermo-oxidative degradation in polyolefins: polypropylene (PP) and high impact polystyrene (HIPS). Elongation at break is very sensitive to oxidative degradation processes. In relative terms, the rate of thermo-oxidation measured by the inverse of the time required for the loss of 50% strain at break is ten times higher in HIPS than in PP.Downloads
