Abstract

Through  this  research  was  evaluated  the  corrosion resistance  of  the  NbN/Nb  multilayers produced  by  unbalanced magnetron sputtering (UMB). The total thickness of the coatings deposited on steel AISI 304 and silice (100) was 1 µm, and the bilayer number was varied between 1 and 30. Potentiodynamic polarization electrochemical techniques will be used with the purpose of obtaining information on corrosion current density and corrosion potential using a 3% NaCl solution. The  microstructure of  the  coatings was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM)  and the crystalline phases with X-ray diffraction (XRD) . The coatings with smaller period of bilayer presented the better corrosion resistance and its corrosion mechanism is discussed in this study.
