Abstract

In this research oligosaccharides from chitosan were obtained by acid degradation, using microwave, and they were subsequently chemically modified with maleic anhydride, so as to improve its solubility in water and produce some compatibilizer agent. These oligosaccharides were characterized using infrared spectroscopy FT-IR and nuclear magnetic resonance 1H-NMR to estimate their molecular structures, observing a decrease of acetyl groups and the appearance of conjugates for modified oligosaccharide. Also were characterized using viscometry, gel permeation chromatography and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, and results shown molecular weights changes, going from a chitosan with 300.000 g/mol and result oligosaccharides with molecular weight around 9000 g/mol.
