Abstract

We studied the effect of the inorganic phase content on the swelling of composites synthesized by addition polymerization from acrylamide (AAm) and red mud (LR). The LR concentration was varied in the synthesis using different suspensions up to 3 % m/V of LR. A maximum was obtained in the index of swelling (Hp) for a concentration of 0,06 % m/V of LR; for higher concentrations Hp gradually decreased. Results are explained in terms of the competence between the hydrophilicity of the LR and its ability to form crosslinking points in the material.
