Alginate fibers have been prepared through the coagulation-spinning method using different multivalent metal sulfate salts as coagulating agents. The impact of the nature of the cation, ZnSO4 concentration on the coagulating capacity, as well as on resulting fibers morphology and mechanical properties has been studied. The impact of the drawing ratio on the mechanical properties of the fibers has also been studied. The fibers have been analyzed by optical microscopy, Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and mechanically through uniaxial stretching.Downloads
