EVALUATION OF ENTRAINMENT OF POLYMER PARTICLES IN THE FIRST POLYMERIZATION REACTOR IN PROPILVEN

A computational fluid dynamics model has been developed to study the entrainment of polymer particles from the first polymerization reactor in a polypropylene plant, to downstream equipment which have presented fouling issues. The results indicate that kinetic energy available enable entrainment of particles with diameters below to 60 μm, this diameter corresponds to pre-polymers particles. The calibration of level instrumentation in the polymerization reactor, to ensure the entry of pre-polymers fluid into the liquid phase instead of the vapor phase, has notably reduced fouling in downstream equipment.Downloads
